What do I do?
I buy and sell furniture – but not ordinary furniture, but rather unique and original pieces of furniture and decor-related products.
I also source and revamp where necessary, both classic and contemporary pieces.
I have been involved in the furniture industry for over 30 years, and I enjoy seeing good design, good proportion and scale. I come from a manufacturing background.
My favorite thing is mixing new and old – I appreciate timeless classical pieces as well as some contemporary pieces.
I love the juxtaposition of antique and modern items. This is a timeless look which won’t date.
Because I am passionate about older well-designed pieces manufactured by master craftsmen, these pieces seem to have more character, charm and warmth and usually come with stories of their past. Their patina cannot be replicated.
There is nothing to beat the glow and warmth of a genuine well designed, practical and elegant piece of furniture.
Good quality, well-designed pieces often become desirable and collectable and hence appreciate in value as opposed to modern furniture – which has a terrible record for resale value.
Many older and collectible pieces become good investments. These pieces are timeless and elegant.
I have a fantastic range of all-weather furniture which resembles wicker. It has aluminium frames and is woven from synthetic fibres. It is UV protected and waterproof, and can be left outdoors 24/7 come rain or shine.
We also have a stunning range of natural authentic driftwood lamps.
Upholstered furniture – luxurious sofas, wingback and occasional chairs manufactured by top SA factories.
All frames are glued, screwed and dowelled – cushions are high-density foam covered with chenile, velvets and other quality fabrics.
It takes time to accumulate good pieces – gems with lots of character – but these are the things that make beautiful interiors.
It gives me much pleasure to walk into a home that has some pieces that have passed through my hands and which make such an impressive statement. Many of these items become topics of conversation.
It is precicely these pieces of furniture, art and objets d’art that enhance and beautify a home.
Where do I source my products?
I go to antique fairs in Sandton, Benoni and Pretoria. There are lots of quality and interesting shops in Greenside, Parkhurst, Northcliff, Linden, Kensington and Greymont. Occasionally I take a trip to Durban, Cape Town and Mpumalanga and their surrounding areas. I also scour the auction rooms, second-hand stores and the Internet.
Upscale – we also have an excellent team of master craftsmen who can restore and polish items – gloss, matt, Chinese lacquer, techniques etc in order to restore them to their former glory. We can re-upholster sofas and chairs as well as offer minor wood restoration.
